Privacy Policy
Effective date: 22 August 2026 · Last updated: 22 August 2026
Pickflix (“Pickflix”, “we”, “us”) is an iOS app that recommends movies and series and shows where they are available to stream. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why, who processes it on our behalf, and the choices you have. It applies to the Pickflix iOS app and to this website, www.pickflix.ai.
The short version: we collect the minimum needed to recommend you good things to watch, we never sell your data, and you can delete everything from inside the app.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller for Pickflix is [Legal entity name / sole trader name], [registered address, country]. Contact: apps@yeygun.com. [LAWYER REVIEW: insert the correct legal entity, address and — if required in your jurisdiction — a data protection contact or representative.]
2. What we collect
We collect only the data listed below. We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, and we do not access other apps on your device.
| Data | What it is | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous device identifier | A random ID generated on first launch and stored on your device. It is not your Apple ID, advertising ID or phone number. | To save your preferences, free-tier usage and history without requiring an account. |
| Sign in with Apple (optional) | If you choose to sign in: a stable Apple user token and, only if you choose to share them, your name and email address. Apple lets you hide your real email. | To sync your profile across devices and to restore it after reinstalling. |
| Region and language | The country you select for streaming availability, and the app language. | To show correct availability and to localise the app. |
| Streaming services | Which services you tell us you subscribe to (e.g. Netflix, Prime Video). We never access those accounts. | To recommend only titles you can actually watch. |
| Watch history, ratings, watchlist | Titles you mark as watched, your thumbs up/down, and titles you save. | To personalise recommendations and avoid repeats. |
| Recommendation sessions | Your answers in the pick flow (mood, time, type, company) and the titles that were recommended. | To generate the picks, let you revisit them, and improve the ranking over time. |
| Subscription status | Whether you have an active Premium subscription, as reported by Apple. We never see your card details. | To unlock Premium features. |
| Basic analytics events | App opens, screens viewed, features used, crashes, app version, iOS version and device model. | To fix bugs and understand which features matter. |
| Support messages | What you send us by email or via the contact form, including your email address. | To answer you. |
3. How we use it
- To generate movie and series recommendations and show where they stream.
- To remember your taste profile, history and watchlist.
- To operate the free tier and Premium subscription.
- To keep the app working, diagnose crashes and improve features.
- To respond to support requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
4. Legal basis [LAWYER REVIEW]
Where the GDPR, UK GDPR or Turkey’s KVKK applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (providing the app you asked for), legitimate interests (keeping the app secure, fixing bugs, basic product analytics), consent (optional Sign in with Apple sharing of name/email) and legal obligation (tax and accounting records tied to purchases, handled by Apple).
5. Third-party services
We use a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf. Each only receives what is needed for its task.
| Provider | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| TMDB (The Movie Database) | Movie and series metadata, posters, ratings; streaming availability data supplied by JustWatch. | Search queries (titles you type), the country you selected, title IDs. No account identifiers. |
| Anthropic (Claude models) | AI ranking of candidate titles and writing the short “why” text. | Your preferences as plain text (mood, time, type, company, liked/disliked genres or titles) and the candidate movie metadata. No name, email, device ID or other personal identifier is sent. See section 6. |
| Apple (StoreKit, Sign in with Apple, App Store) | Payments and subscriptions; optional sign-in; app distribution and crash reports. | Handled under Apple’s own privacy policy. We receive subscription status and, if you sign in, your Apple user token and anything you chose to share. |
| Hosting / backend provider [LAWYER REVIEW: name provider and region] | Running our servers and database. | All data in section 2, stored encrypted at rest. |
| Email provider [name provider] | Receiving and answering support email. | Your support messages. |
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Streaming availability data by JustWatch.
6. How AI processing works
When you ask for a pick, the app first fetches a list of real candidate titles from TMDB based on your country, services and runtime. That list, plus your answers from the pick flow and a summary of your taste (for example “likes slow-burn thrillers, dislikes slapstick comedy”), is sent as text to Anthropic’s API, which returns a ranking and a one-sentence reason per title.
- The request contains no personal identifiers: no name, email, device ID, IP address forwarded by us, or account information.
- We use the API under terms that do not permit the provider to train its models on our requests. [LAWYER REVIEW: confirm current Anthropic commercial terms at publication.]
- The AI cannot access your account or any data beyond the text in that request.
- Recommendations are ranked by the AI but every title and availability chip is validated against TMDB data before you see it.
7. Analytics
We collect a small set of aggregated usage events (described in section 2) to understand which features are used and to find crashes. Analytics is tied to the anonymous device identifier, not to your name or email. We do not use advertising SDKs, fingerprinting, or cross-app tracking, and the app does not request App Tracking Transparency permission because it does not track you across apps or websites.
8. Retention [LAWYER REVIEW]
- Profile, history, ratings, watchlist, sessions: kept while your account or device profile is active; deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
- Inactive anonymous profiles (no app open for 24 months) are deleted automatically.
- Analytics events: kept for up to 14 months, then aggregated or deleted.
- Support email: kept for up to 24 months after the last message.
- Backups: encrypted backups roll over within 35 days.
9. Your rights: delete, export, correct
Delete your account and data
In the app: Profile → Delete account. This immediately removes your profile, watch history, ratings, watchlist and recommendation sessions from our servers and signs you out. Your anonymous device identifier is reset. If you used Sign in with Apple, you can also revoke Pickflix under Settings → your Apple ID → Sign in with Apple.
If you no longer have the app, email apps@yeygun.com from the email address linked to your account (or with your device identifier from Settings → About) and we will delete your data within 30 days.
Export your data
You can request a copy of your data (history, ratings, watchlist, sessions) in a machine-readable JSON file by emailing apps@yeygun.com. We respond within 30 days.
Other rights
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to access, correct or restrict processing of your data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (for example the Turkish KVKK Board or your EU data protection authority). Contact us and we will help. [LAWYER REVIEW: add any jurisdiction-specific rights wording, e.g. CCPA if targeting California.]
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is limited to the people who need it and protected by multi-factor authentication. API keys for TMDB and Anthropic live only on our servers, never in the app. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires it.
11. Children
Pickflix is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country, e.g. 16 in parts of the EU) and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used Pickflix, contact us and we will delete the data.
12. International transfers [LAWYER REVIEW]
Our servers and service providers may be located outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. Where required we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses and providers’ certifications. Only the minimal, non-identifying data described in section 5 leaves our systems.
13. This website
www.pickflix.ai is a static website. It does not set tracking cookies and does not use third-party analytics. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the font files are requested. The contact form sends your name, email and message to us by email; a hidden anti-spam field is included. We store your language preference in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers which language you chose. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, user agent, pages requested) for security for a limited time.
14. Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will post the new version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, show a notice in the app. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
15. Contact
Questions, requests or complaints: apps@yeygun.com or use the contact form.
