Mood
Start with how you want to feel, not a genre. Moods map to dozens of signals — tone, pacing, darkness, humour, emotional weight — so “dark & intense” can surface a crime drama, a psychological thriller or a bleak sci-fi film.
Pickflix is an AI movie recommendation app, but the experience is deliberately simple: a short conversation, a ranked list, and a button that takes you to where it streams.
Start with how you want to feel, not a genre. Moods map to dozens of signals — tone, pacing, darkness, humour, emotional weight — so “dark & intense” can surface a crime drama, a psychological thriller or a bleak sci-fi film.
How long do you really have? Pickflix filters by runtime (and for series, by episode length) so you never start something you can’t finish tonight.
Movie or series? Something new or a comfort rewatch? A title you’ve already marked as watched is never recommended again unless you ask for rewatches.
Watching alone is different from watching with your parents or a group of friends. This step adjusts content intensity, crowd-pleaser factor and how much attention the film demands.
You get a top pick and a few alternatives, ranked. Each comes with a one-line reason (“why Pickflix chose this”), a match percentage, runtime, TMDB rating and — the important part — the exact services where it’s available in your country, split into Stream / Rent / Buy. Tap and go.
Large language models are great at taste and terrible at facts. Pickflix is built so that the AI only ever does the part it’s good at.
It reads your mood, constraints and taste profile, then ranks a candidate list of real titles we fetched from TMDB. It writes the short “why” sentence. That’s it.
It never invents a film, a release year, a rating or a streaming service. Every title is validated against TMDB, and every “available on” chip comes from JustWatch data via TMDB — never from the model’s memory.
Availability changes weekly. Pickflix checks it at the moment you ask, in the country you chose. If something has just left a service, it won’t be recommended as streaming there.
If a country has thin availability data, the app tells you instead of guessing. You’ll see fewer picks rather than wrong ones.
Pickflix needs to know what you like to be useful. It does not need to know who you are.
